Why A Fish Oil Diet

A fish oil diet under normal circumstances would be highly recommended if it was not for the modern times we are living in. Our times are plagued with headlines concerning the dangers of pollutants and the damage done to the environment due to mans ignorance or selfishness. The so called global warming being the latest scare.

Mercury contamination of fish unfortunately is not a scare but a proven reality. Even so, many medical institutions do recommend a serving of fish at least twice a week, due to the proven health benefits of fish oil fatty acids. In order to enjoy your diet of fish with additional peace of mind, such authorities tend to recommend the eating of fatty fish which are small, such as sardines and wild salmon.

Such applied recommendations cut down the risk of large intakes of contaminants. On a more positive side, DHA fatty acid which is found in fatty fish is known to reduce obesity along with its associated problems, heart disease and diabetes.

It is of interest to note that researchers at the Louis Pasteur University, France have proven by trials that over weight children have very low DHA fatty acid levels as compared to children of normal weight in the same respective age group, that is 12 year olds.

Other authorities have also established that a diet low in the intake of unhealthy fats, such as rancid vegetable oils often found in processed foods and junk foods, leads to an increase in the levels of EPA and DHA omega3 fatty acids. This is not surprising, as such man altered fats counteract the good effects of essential fatty acids.

For example, eating too much meat from grain fed cows which are low in omega 3's poses potential health difficulties. Whereas when cows are fed wild grasses rich in omega 3's, such meat would be healthier to one's diet and would not pose the same modern day threats.

If you are a vegan or a vegetarian who will not eat a fish oil diet, it is good to know that flax seed, pumpkin seed, walnuts and hazel nuts do contain a form of omega3 known as ALA. By scientific testing it has been seen that ALA can be converted into the beneficial fatty acids found in fatty fish, that is EPA and DHA. How ever, the yield resultant from any such a conversion process may only be low compared to the high amounts of such oils found in fish.

Infact tests reveal that flax seed oil which contains the highest amount of ALA in any food group, when given to volunteers who were being monitored, revealed a very poor conversion rate into the all important DHA fatty acid, so as to be counted almost negligible.

This is particularly worrying since higher levels of DHA as found in a fish oil dietary supplement, are associated with mood enhancing properties which cut down on the rate of depression, aggression and suicides in the population.

The value of a maintained a fish oil weight loss diet is that adequate levels of omega 3's will be sustained whereas those who are following every dietary fad going and those who are on yo yo diets, will have an imbalance of essential fatty acids which can lead to all sorts of health problems and even weight gain!

A fish oil diet as you can see is not a low fat or fat free diet. Such diets are not recommended for reasons stated above along with the fact that omega 3 fat assist in the speeding up of the fat burning ability of the body and the release of energy which is essential for the continuation and endurance of any diet. The bottom line is that a fish oil diet combined with a weight loss program of exercise is a winner not for weight issues only, but also for health problems such as high blood pressure and cholesterol difficulties.

I personally survived cancer by eating a fish oil diet mostly of sardines with spinach and generally having a mostly raw food diet. It appears that some with deadly pancreatic cancer had their survival time double by taking an enriched fish oil supplement. No doubt the omega 3 fatty acids along with vitamin D and A found in the sardines and the cancer fighting magnesium found in spinach all helped me to survive.

Yes a balanced fish oil diet along with a pure fish oil supplement, can be that important to life!
