Does Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil Meet The Grade

It may come as a nasty surprise to learn that product labeling descriptions such as 'Pharmaceutical Grade Fish Oil' and 'Enteric Coated Fish Oil' are total misnomers or marketing ploys in the world of persuasive sales talk. The problem is that such double speak can be dangerous to your health if they do not meet the grade.

First of all, to any intelligent consumer, a pharmaceutical product brings images of purity to mind, which of course is paramount in safe guarding your health and in obtaining the full benefits of fish oil fatty acids. An enteric coated capsule also brings cascading images to mind of superior absorption of the omega 3 fats. But what is the truth behind these captivating descriptions?

While enteric coated supplements do have their place in the health industry, this is not necessarily the case for the fish oil omega3 market. Indeed an enteric coated fish oil capsule may well be coated to mask the rancidity of the oil rather than to survive the trip down to the stomach. Rather than being labeled a pharmaceutical grade fish oil, a fish oil supplement should instead be labeled 'Molecularly Distilled', which is a true indicator of purity when it comes to grading the best fish oils.

You would expect so called pharmaceutical graded fish oil products would be consistent in their standards of purity. This is not the case and whats more, not all such brands carrying the pharma label issue a certificate of analysis for public scrutiny. Those that actually do, suffer from wide variations of purity and quality in their respective products.

Another factor to keep in mind is that such labeling may not reveal the waters where the fish was derived from and sometimes not even the actual type of fatty fish used in the fish oil body extraction process. This information is vital for producing the finest fish oil that have a minimum of contaminants even before distillation.

For example the molecularly distilled fish oil I personally recommend is derived from the clear waters of New Zealand where the omega3 rich Hoki fish and the omega 3 rich plankton they actually feed upon exist. These fish do not contain any traceable pollutants.

In order to preserve the natural balance of the Hoki fish, Tuna oil is mixed in with the Hoki oil at a ratio of 1:1, but not before undergoing a special form of purification and in addition also being subject to molecular distillation as well. Together these oils produce high levels of DHA in a concentration, very rarely seen in the market place. That is why I describe them as being the best fish oil on the planet.
